Variety Intelligence Platform has published a report that shows Top 10 most pirated movies in 2022. It was based on data provided by the research company Muso. They show that the majority of illegally watched titles are superhero productions. Even Black Adam, which hit the cinema screens only in October, scored high in the infamous ranking. Among the 10 most pirated movies are not only high-profile superhero productions. Top Gun: Maverick was also ranked. Interestingly, the title was a hit at the box office, but when it comes to illegally watched movies, it ranks quite low compared to the competition. This may not be a coincidence. According to Muso’s data, piracy spikes most often coincide with premieres on streaming platforms, thanks to which illegal copies of very good quality appear on the market.

It can therefore be assumed that if the viewer has access only to a poor recording with a hidden camera from the cinema, he is more likely to choose a legal source. And if the production can be watched illegally in good quality, it will be more pirated.
