The Little Mermaid will reflect modern women. The book is just the icing on the cake

As with the original animated film based on the fairy tale Hans Christian Andersen, Little Mermaid will follow a mermaid fascinated by the earthly world. Ariel, after rescuing Prince Eric from a shipwreck, wishes to live out of the water. Love for a man and a sincere desire to learn about life on land will motivate her to make a deal with the sea witch Urszula, under which she will have to renounce the siren’s voice.
The actress of the main role Halle Bailey however, she pointed out significant differences in the way the story is told. According to her, the upcoming production will break out of the framework of the old image of feminism.
The beauty of this version is that it is much more modern. When we watched Ariel when we were younger, she gave everything for a guy. But I don’t think that reflects modern women. So now it’s more about Ariel finding freedom because of this obsessed world… Prince Eric is the icing on the cake, but it’s not about him.
While Ariel’s portrayal was considered progressive at the time, it is at odds with modern views on the definition of feminism. Therefore, a remake Little Mermaid will focus primarily on the fascination with the human world, which will turn into a journey in search of freedom. It also changes the vision of Ariel’s romance with Prince Eric, as it is not the end goal in the mermaid’s story, but “the icing on the cake”.
