The Last of Us – why is Ellie immune to the infection? The HBO series gives the answer

IN The Last of Us Joel takes care of protecting Ellie, who is immune to Cordyceps infection, a fungus that has led to a global apocalypse. The games never explain why the young girl didn’t transform despite being bitten, but in the series, things are different. In the season 1 finale, a potential explanation for Ellie’s unique ability emerged.
The Last of Us – how does the show explain Ellie’s resistance to infection?
In the opening scene of episode 9, we see Anna, Ellie’s mother. A woman is attacked and bitten at the time of childbirth. As Marlene later explains, in this situation, most likely, chemical messengers were created in her brain, which make the girl treat cordyceps as already infected, which explains her immunity. Therefore, the Fireflies wanted to perform surgery and obtain these transmitters, and then use them to create a cure.
