The Dark Tower – the director of the series sharply about the film. It affected badly future adaptations of King’s books

Mike Flanagan said the movie The Dark Tower not only was it a poor adaptation of the saga Stephen King, but also hurt the entire brand and future productions. See the director’s commentary below.
We remind you that The Dark Tower premiered in 2017. The film was a commercial failure and had a very negative reception. In turn, in 2022, it was announced that Mike Flanagan will create a series based on the same saga. It is worth considering that the creator created such horror films as Haunted house on the hill and Night massas well as adaptations of other Stephen King books, including productions Gerald’s game and Doctor Sen.
The Dark Tower – the director of the series sharply about the film
Now the director in the Script Apart podcast told how the film failed Dark Tower influenced subsequent adaptations of Stephen King’s books, including his own.
[Moja adaptacja Mrocznej Wieży] it couldn’t be more different [od filmowej]. This was the wrong approach to the source material, so much so that in my opinion it could have tainted the ground for a long time for anyone who wanted to plant something under the banner Dark Tower. But that’s what we have to deal with in making the series, the fact that the film did an incredible amount of damage in terms of the potential for more adaptations.
The director added that Amazon has made another attempt to create an adaptation Dark Tower, which ultimately failed, so he would have understood if the studio hadn’t given the green light to his project after how much money they had lost at the time. He also noted that his series will be completely different from both the film version and the previous Amazon.
