Rebel Moon – why was the film divided into two parts? A representative from Netflix explained this

Rebel Moon is a sci-fi movie created by Zack Snyder. Initially, it was supposed to be a production in the universe Star Wars, but Lucasfilm was not interested in the project and remade it as a story in a completely new universe. The upcoming show will be divided into two parts, and an interview with one of Netflix’s representatives reveals the reasons for this decision.
Ori Marmur was asked in an interview with Variety why Netflix believed in Snyder’s vision and decided to create two films. He revealed that this was primarily due to the director’s involvement in this project.
Zack came to us with great passion. It’s a movie he’s had in his head for decades. As you know, he spent a lot of time working on different brands for other studios. We worked with him on Army of the Dead and we did things others couldn’t do. We made a movie, a prequel and a VR experience.
Snyder was supposed to create a huge and very rich world. This made Netflix decide to split the story into two parts.
Creating Rebel Moon wanted to [Snyder – przyp. red] cross borders again. When we saw how big a world he created, we thought it would be better to make two parts instead of one movie. It’s one of those stories that keeps evolving. He himself considers it his attempt to create something in the style of Star Wars.
Rebel Moon – Premiere on Netflix is scheduled for December 22, 2023.
