Oscars 2023 – viewers negatively assess the nomination for Ana de Armas and no mention for Viola Davis

One of the biggest surprises of this year’s Oscar nominations is the lack of accolades for the film Warrior Queen directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood. Especially on the web, there were many voices criticizing the Film Academy for the omission Viola Davis in the category for Best Actress, nominating instead Ana de Armas behind blonde.
Many fans’ voices resound on Twitter. Fans are trying to understand the reasons why Ana de Armas was nominated and Davis’ “great” and “important” performance was overlooked. Some people note that it was simply a terrible and in many ways harmful film. Therefore, even apart from the omission of Viola Davis, many cinema fans may not fully agree with the choice of the role of Marilyn Monroe.

Viola Davis not being nominated for “Woman King” is wild. Almost as wild as Ana de Armas being nominated for “Blonde.” https://t.co/OGr01ywnCM

Action of the film Warrior Queen takes place in the African Kingdom of Dahomey, which at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries was an important country on the continent. The protagonist of the project is Nanisca, the commander of a military unit of female warriors. Together with her daughter, she has to repel the attacks of the French and stand against hostile tribes that have violated the border of her country and the inviolability of its inhabitants.
