Goosebumps – the iconic series of children’s books will be edited. What will be removed and changed?

RL Stine decided to return to the books in the series Gooseflesh and make changes to them. The writer intends to introduce a more inclusive language. We have discussed the details below.
We recently wrote about a controversial edit of Roald Dahl’s books, which aimed, among other things, to remove words that were deemed offensive by a specially hired group of people. Although the publisher, after a wave of criticism, decided that two editions would eventually be published – the classic and the new one – and the reader would be able to decide which one he prefers to reach for, now it has become loud about another case from the same shelf. With one key difference – this time the decision to introduce changes was made by the author himself.

Goosebumps – the author edits his books
The Times reported that R. L. Stine had already made over a hundred changes to the books in the series Goosefleshwhich are probably the most famous horror stories for children.
An example of such editing is the scene where aliens abduct “big people” – originally described as having at least six chins, in the new version they are at least six feet tall.
For that in the book Attack of the Jack-O’-Lanterns from 1996, the character is described as:
Tall and handsome, with dark brown eyes and a wonderful, warm smile. Lee is an African American who walks proudly and acts cool, like rappers from MTV music videos.
The author removed the comparison to rappers from MTV music videos.
In the book I Live in Your Basement! from 1997, the hero no longer asks: “Does he expect me to be his slave forever?”. The author changed it to: “does he expect me to do this forever?”. For this in Say Cheese and Die – Again! the schoolgirls were described as in love with the headmaster, but this point was completely removed. In turn, in Don’t Go to Sleep! the boy called Anna Karenina “something for girls”, but now he just says that it’s not something interesting.
TOP 30: The most popular books in 2022 according to Tumblr
Tumblr has once again published its annual recap, which many users have been waiting for. In addition to movies and series, the list also includes the most popular books of 2022.
We have also given numbers in parentheses for some titles – if they are in the plus, it means how much the position has moved up in the ranking compared to last year, and if in the minus, the book has fallen down in the same way. Interestingly, The Song of Ice and Fire advanced by as many as 7 places in 2022. It can be speculated that this is due to the high-profile premiere of the Dragon House. The series made the same list The Vampire Chronicles Anne Rice, who was not in the rankings at all in 2021 – this may be related to the debut of the series Interview with the Vampire.
