The Golden Globes 2022 are only weeks away, but it’s a matter of presence Brendan Fraser at the gala has already been decided. The actor will most likely be nominated for his universally praised role in the film Whale. The information that he will not be at the gala was revealed by the interested himself in an interview with GQ magazine.
Golden Globes 2022 without Brendan Fraser
The actor openly and honestly said that even if he is nominated, he has no intention of participating in the gala.
“I have more of a past with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association than respect for them. No, I won’t be attending the gala because of the shared past I have with them. My mother didn’t raise me to be a hypocrite. You can call me anything, but I’m not a hypocrite.
The shared past that Brendan Fraser talks about relates to the 2018 allegations. The actor then accused former head of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, Philip Berk, of sexual harassment in 2003. Berk was a member of the HFPA until 2021, when he was expelled for sharing an article in an email with members about Black Lives Matter calling the social movement a racist hate movement.
The actor also revealed that the HFPA never issued an apology to him. The association itself denies this, telling the journalist that they apologized to him twice. Berk himself, in 2018, openly admitted that the letter addressed to Fraser, which was supposed to be an apology, never contained an admission of crossing the line, because the defendant denied this issue, calling it a joke.
