Godzilla – Producer Admits Mistake. The 1998 movie should have done it differently

Dean Devlin was the producer of the film Godzilla from 1998. In a new interview with Yahoo, he mentions this project, which received terrible reviews – especially from fans of the King of Monsters, because it had nothing to do with it. It was so bad that even the Japanese refused to accept this monster as Godzilla. In one of the Japanese movies, he appeared as Zilla and was killed by the real Godzilla in 5 seconds.
1998 Godzilla – Mistakes Made
Devlin explains that they made a conscious decision at the time, which seemed good and interesting at the time, but ultimately turned out to be fatal for the film.
– We decided that Godzilla would be neither good nor evil. It will simply be an animal looking for a place to reproduce. It was a threat to humans because it puts them at risk in order to survive. It’s an interesting take on the subject, but it doesn’t tell viewers how to feel about the titular character.
So he admits that this decision was their big mistake. If he could undo it and do it again, he would make Godzilla the absolute hero of history from the beginning. And everyone would be rooting for him from the start.

They planned to fix this bug in a potential sequel. Devlin explains that they wanted to go to the island of monsters known from the Japanese original. It was in such a place that they were supposed to show him as a hero.
Terrible reviews and only $ 379 million against a budget of $ 130 million (plus promotion costs) meant that the studio did not order a sequel.
– I have post-traumatic stress disorder after the experience with Godzilla. I couldn’t bring myself to see this new version. This chapter of my life is closed, says the producer.
Godzilla will return to screens in 2024 in a movie Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
