Babylon – real characters. Who was Damien Chazelle inspired by?

Babylon is now available in Polish cinemas. This is a controversial production that receives very divergent opinions. The epic focuses on the excesses of the early Hollywood era. He recounts the great rise and fall of many stars of the American entertainment industry in the 1920s. In the story presented on the screen, you can find references to real events and real characters. Many times, tributes are paid to outstanding cinematographers, starting with silent works.

In the gallery below, we present a collection of probable characters that the creators could have been inspired by when building the characters’ profiles. Many on-screen characters share traits similar to various prominent personalities of early Hollywood. So, for some of the heroes, a few names have been mentioned, due to the great similarity. Fictional characters and their alleged real counterparts are connected by various issues – a similar course of the early years of youth, family and professional vicissitudes. In addition to the supposed inspirations, the heroes who really lived in that period were mentioned. There were not many of them, but they are among the outstanding individuals.
