Avatar 3 and the rest differ from the Marvel and DC movies in this aspect. James Cameron explains

During a conversation with South Korean television during the promotion of the film Avatar: Water Creature there was a topic Avatar 3 and subsequent sequels that are part of his saga. He used the comparison to Marvel and DC movies to emphasize what his productions will not be and what they will not duplicate from this type of shows.

Avatar 3, 4 and 5 – the villain

“It’s not like a Marvel/DC superhero story where there’s a new villain in every movie. We have the same person. Same opponent throughout the series. However, he is evolving, which in itself will be interesting as we introduce additional enemies, but also new allies.

Cameron doesn’t just have negative associations with superhero movies. In an interview with Brandon Davis of comicbook.com, he agreed that the genre helped popularize the industry’s interest in special effects. He added that WETA Digital is constantly recruiting new people who have been cooperating with companies creating superhero films.

avatar 3 is already filmed. Premiere in December 2024.
