At the Mountains of Madness – this is what an adaptation of Lovecraft’s book could look like. Del Toro shows the test
Guillermo del Toro posted online a test computer animation that was developed while working on the film In the mountains of madness based on HP Lovecraft’s book of the same name. Test animations were usually intended to illustrate some vision long before the work on the set began. From the director’s post, we learn that it was created 10 years ago by Industrial Light and Magic.

The project was in the pre-production stage, so work was in full swing. However, they never reached the production stage, as the studio decided to cancel the film.
Guillermo del Toro and Matthew Robbins wrote the script for the production in 2006. Warner Bros. however, abandoned the project because the studio realized that they had no interest in a faithful adaptation of Lovecraft’s work, full of monsters and madness. Later, Universal Pictures won the distribution rights to the film, but their vision did not resonate with the director’s idea. They wanted an action-packed PG-13 blockbuster, so Guillermo del Toro declined.
