Apple dominates the smartphone market

Apple’s iPhone 13 model was the best-selling smartphone in 2022, accounting for five percent of global smartphone sales last year. Even more impressive is the fact that Apple phones scored as many as 8 places in the list of 10 best-selling smartphones.
According to Counterpoint Research’s report, the three best-selling smartphones last year were from Apple: the aforementioned iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
The research firm reported that the iPhone 13 accounted for 28 percent of iPhone sales and was the best-selling phone every month from its launch in September 2021 to August 2022, just ahead of the launch of the iPhone 14 series. The iPhone 14 Pro Max took over the top spot in September and held it through November, with the standard iPhone 14 taking the number one position in the final month of 2022.

The Samsung Galaxy A13 took the fourth position in 2022, but then there were five more iPhones before the Samsung Galaxy A03 hit the 10th place with 1.1 percent market share.
The Samsung Galaxy A13 and Galaxy A03 are entry-level models and the only two phones on the list that don’t support 5G. Both performed well in emerging markets such as India, the Caribbean and Latin America, the Middle East and Africa.
In total, phones from the top ten accounted for 19 percent. total global smartphone sales in 2022. Counterpoint believes that the collective market share of the top 10 phones will increase this year as companies look for ways to reduce inventory and optimize product launches.
In addition, the research firm expects brands to continue to slim down their portfolios in an effort to minimize internal competition between smartphones. Over the past few years, the number of active smartphone models on the market has dropped from over 4,200 in 2021 to close to 3,600 last year.
