As reported by Variety, Amazon Prime Video is officially starting work on several live-action series based on Marvel comics, for which Sony Pictures has the rights.
Marvel – series on Amazon
It will be the first project Silk: Spider Society, directed by Angela Kang, who serves as showrunner. She gained recognition for the show’s 9-11 season The Walking Dead. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the creators of the film, will support her as producers Spider-Man Universe.
The protagonist is Cindy Moon, a Korean-American who was bitten by the same spider as Peter Parker. As she searches for her family, she becomes the superhero known in the comics as Silk.
The first US series will debut on MGM+. Outside the US, it will go straight to the Prime Video platform.
At the moment, it is not known who the other series that Sony and Amazon Prime Video will be working on will be about. Sony has the rights to over 900 Spider-Man characters, according to official data. It is also not known whether the series will be set in the Sony movie universe, because they will certainly not be related to the MCU.
Recall that Sony is responsible for films such as Venom (and sequel), Morbius, Spider-Man Universe (and upcoming sequels Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) and Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse) and in production Kraven the Hunter and madam web.
